Puppies for Parole
Our shelter partners with the Puppies for Parole program to give our dogs a second chance at finding loving homes. Through this program, carefully selected dogs from our shelter are paired with resident trainers in Missouri prisons. These residents provide the dogs with essential obedience training and socialization, making them more adoptable. After successfully completing the program, the dogs return to our shelter to be adopted. Puppies for Parole has helped over 7,000 dogs find forever homes since 2010!
This program is a win-win: it saves dogs' lives and helps them find families, while also providing valuable skills and rehabilitation opportunities for the resident trainers. These trainers participate in a Department of Labor apprenticeship program, earning a nationally recognized animal handling certificate. The program not only improves public safety by reducing recidivism but also boosts morale and safety within the correctional facilities. Importantly, Puppies for Parole is entirely funded through private donations, making your support crucial to its continued success.
