Our History
Working Towards a Better Tomorrow
Like-minded volunteers have been the driving force behind Dogwood Animal Shelter since its beginning. Through auctions and sales, a handful of dedicated people raised enough money to build a small facility and in 1976, the badly needed shelter was established as a 501(c)3. It was filled beyond capacity almost immediately.
From the start, Dogwood offered low cost spays and neuters, and since 1997, when the Board of Directors declared Dogwood a no-kill facility, it has steadily expanded that program.

After years of saving, planning and busting at the seams with fur-babies, in 2005 it was time to build a new facility to include their own in-house clinic! Under the direction of Dr. John Reinhold and coupled with a very dedicated and gifted team of Veterinarians and staff, Dogwood Animal Shelter continues to offer low cost spays and neuters to the public as well as services to their shelter buddies; services to approximately 2,000 dogs and cats yearly!

Dogwood Animal Shelter receives no public assistance funding and is entirely run on donations and proceeds from their Dogwood Animal Shelter Thrift Store.
Donations are gratefully accepted at any time. Our work depends on them!
